Don't Forget to Ask...

Does your venue allow candles?!

Often times when prospective clients show me images of décor designs they like, those pictures feature styling that includes candle details.

It is usually a subtle detail that they may have even missed, but if that subtle detail were removed, it would make a huge difference to the overall look of the setup.

Candles help to add a romantic and warm ambience to your venue styling and they’re one of my favourite things to use when decorating for weddings and special events.

We had a wedding recently whereby in a telephone consultation in the run up to the wedding, I asked the bride to confirm with her venue that candles were allowed. Upon doing so, she unfortunately found out they were not. She was extremely disappointed as her main centrepiece was our Cylinder cluster which is a medley featuring glass cylinder vases of varying heights with enclosed water and floating candles. This is complimented with floral details and tealight candles in votives.

As a last minute alternative, we used submerging lights with floating orchid heads instead. They weren’t quite what our bide had envisioned for her big day, but they were a cute improvisation that looked pretty even if I do say so myself!

Now I know that there are LED options that can be bought, but from a design perspective, they can often look tacky so I personally usually advise potential clients not to bother but to consider alternatives instead of an attempted imitation.

The moral of the story goes however, please do make sure to find out about potential restrictions at your venue as early as possible before securing it. You’re welcome. :)
