The Design is in the Details
The difference between an Events or Wedding Decorator and an Events Stylist, is that an Events Stylist (or Wedding Stylist) will consider all aspects and elements of the decor and how they come together. We’re not just allowing you as our client to pick random pieces for hire and throwing it all together without consideration, of how each piece compliments the overall look.
Other factors we take into consideration are the height of the ceiling, lighting, the shape and natural decor of the room. One statement I’m known for saying often is; ‘Here at Afmena Events, we don’t decorate, we design’.
To bring this point to life, for today’s blog post I’d like to focus on the guest table decor and styling. With this, it is important to not just focus on the centrepiece alone. Doing so can result in a table looking ‘poor’.
Other pieces that can add spice to the table styling are first of all the napkins. Having coloured napkins can help to tie in the colour scheme of the occassion. It can provide the needed pop of colour when perhaps you’re really not trying to go overboard with it, but you just want a certain colour to feature subtly in your decorations. There are so many different types of napkin fold designs which again can be a great styling feature. One of the awesome things about napkins is that they can come in different textures which adds to the richness of the tablescape look and feel.
A second piece of added spice is your table stationery. The table names/numbers as well as the place names and menu cards. Paying attention to elements such as this really helps to elevate your table decor. There are many companies who specialise in stationery and we have had the great pleasure of working with a number of different experts in this field that we can recommend who are able to provide bespoke creations. There are also some great online companies via Etsy and Amazon where you can choose from various options that suit your decor at a lower price.
The third piece is favours. This is a great way to provide a keepsake that is personalised and reflective of yourself and provides a reminder to your guests of the special day. It is also a way to be thoughtful of your guests. For this particular wedding, the favours were chocolate pieces wrapped in paper that featured the couple’s initials.
The final spice factor is cutlery, crockery and glassware. We are spoilt for choice when it comes to options for items such as the charger plates, the plates in terms of shape, colour and design and even with cutlery, we’re no longer limited to just silverware. There is the option of gold cutlery to a full range of colours, for example we have styled a wedding with even black cutlery before.
All of the examples we have provided are simple enough to achieve but incredibly effective. Our job as your Venue Stylist is to provide you with guidance with these decisions. We have a wide network of suppliers that we can recommend, but even if you choose not to use any of them, our advice is still available to all our clients. Trust us as the experts, we’ve got this and we’ve got you!
